The short version: Kitchenouse earns money from display advertising and from affiliate links. If you click certain links on this site and buy something, we may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. None of this changes what we publish or what we recommend. The longer explanation is below.
Affiliate links
Some articles on this site contain affiliate links. These are ordinary links to products or retailers, with a tracking code attached that tells the retailer the visit came from us. If you go on to buy something within a set window, the retailer pays us a percentage of the sale.
You never pay more because of an affiliate link. The price is identical whether you reach the retailer through us, through a search engine, or by typing the address yourself. The commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your pocket.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Kitchenouse is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.
We may join additional affiliate programs over time. Where we do, the same rules apply: the link costs you nothing extra, and it does not buy the product a favorable mention.
Display advertising
This site carries display advertising. Ads are currently served by Google AdSense. We may work with other advertising networks in the future, and if we do, this page will be updated to name them.
We do not choose the individual ads that appear on any given page. Those are selected automatically by the advertising network, based partly on the content of the page and partly on information the network holds about the person viewing it. This means we cannot vouch for advertisers, and an ad appearing on Kitchenouse is not an endorsement by us. If you see an ad here that seems misleading or inappropriate, please let us know so we can report it.
Cookies, tracking and your choices
Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can control how Google personalizes the ads you see, or turn personalization off entirely, through My Ad Center, or through Google Ad Settings if you are not signed in to a Google account.
Google’s own explanation of how it handles data on sites that use its services is published at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors at once through the Digital Advertising Alliance at aboutads.info/choices.
Turning off personalization does not remove ads. It means the ads you see will be less relevant to you, not fewer in number. For a fuller account of what data this site and its partners collect, see our Privacy Policy.
Editorial independence
This is the part that matters most, so we will be direct about it.
Advertisers and affiliate partners have no input into our content. They do not see articles before publication, they cannot request changes, and they cannot pay for a mention, a ranking, or a favorable review. We decide what to write about based on what readers are actually asking, and we write the answer we believe is correct.
This is particularly important given what this site publishes. A great deal of our content concerns food safety, storage times and spoilage, where the honest answer is often that you should throw something out, or that you do not need to buy anything at all. We would rather tell you to discard a jar of mayonnaise or use a container you already own than steer you toward a purchase for the sake of a commission. If our advice ever costs us a sale, that is the advice working correctly.
Where we recommend a product, it is because we believe it does the job. Where we have not tested something ourselves, we say so rather than implying hands-on experience we do not have.
Sponsored content
We do not currently publish sponsored posts, paid placements or gifted product reviews. If that changes, any such content will be clearly labeled as sponsored at the top of the article itself, not disclosed only on this page.
Prices and availability
Product prices, specifications and availability change frequently and are outside our control. Any price mentioned in an article was accurate at the time of writing and may not be current. The price shown on the retailer’s own site at the moment you buy is the one that applies. We are not responsible for pricing errors, stock issues, shipping, returns or warranty claims, all of which are matters between you and the retailer.
