Last updated: 28 August 2026. This version replaces the terms dated 8 January 2022.
These Terms of Service govern your use of kitchenouse.com. By visiting, reading or otherwise using this site, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please stop using the site.
We have written this in plain language rather than dense legal boilerplate, because terms nobody can read protect nobody. It is still a binding agreement.
Who we are
Kitchenouse is an independent publisher of general information about cooking, food storage and everyday kitchen questions. Throughout these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Kitchenouse. “You” means the person using the site. You can reach us through our contact page.
What this site is, and what it is not
Kitchenouse publishes general educational content. It is not professional advice of any kind, and specifically it is not medical advice, nutritional advice, or professional food safety consultancy. Storage times, shelf life estimates and spoilage guidance are general information that cannot account for the condition of the food in your kitchen.
Your use of this site is subject to our Food Safety and Health Disclaimer, which forms part of these terms and which you should read in full. In short: when in doubt, throw it out, and consult a qualified professional for anything that matters to your health.
Our content and how you may use it
All content on this site, including articles, text, photographs, graphics, layout and the compilation of that material, is owned by Kitchenouse or used with permission, and is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.
You may read our content, print it or save it for your own personal, non-commercial use, and share a link to any page freely. Linking to us is welcome and needs no permission.
You may not republish our articles in whole or in substantial part, whether on a website, in print, in an app, in a newsletter or anywhere else, without our written permission. You may not sell, license or otherwise commercially exploit our content, present it as your own work, or remove attribution from it. Quoting a short passage with clear attribution and a link back to the original article is acceptable.
Automated access, scraping and data mining
You may not use automated tools to scrape, harvest, copy or systematically download content from this site, or to place unreasonable load on our servers. We reserve all rights regarding text and data mining and the use of our content to train machine learning or generative AI systems, and we do not grant permission for those uses by publishing this content openly.
Automated access permissions are set out in our robots.txt file. Ignoring those directives is a breach of these terms. We may block any IP address, network or automated agent at our discretion, without notice.
Comments and anything you send us
Where comments are enabled, and when you contact us, you are responsible for what you submit. Do not post anything unlawful, abusive, defamatory, hateful, deliberately misleading, or infringing someone else’s rights, and do not use our site to advertise, spam or distribute malicious code.
By submitting a comment or other material, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty free, perpetual licence to publish, keep, edit for length or clarity, or remove it. We are not obliged to publish anything, and we may moderate, edit or delete any submission at any time without giving a reason. Comments express the views of the people who wrote them and not ours, and we do not endorse them or vouch for their accuracy. Do not act on food safety advice given in a comment.
If you send us an idea or suggestion, we may use it freely and without any obligation to you.
Advertising and affiliate links
This site is funded by display advertising and affiliate links, as set out in our Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure. We do not select the individual ads that appear, and an advertisement on this site is not an endorsement by us. Any transaction you enter into with an advertiser or retailer is between you and them, and we are not a party to it and not responsible for it.
Links to other websites
We link to other sites where they are useful, including official food safety resources and retailers. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement of everything on the destination. Once you leave kitchenouse.com, these terms no longer apply and the other site’s terms and privacy policy do.
Age
This site is intended for adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Disclaimer of warranties
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ON IT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title and non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the content is accurate, complete or current, that the site will be uninterrupted, secure or error free, or that any defect will be corrected. Food safety guidance is revised over time and older articles may not reflect current recommendations.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or relating to this site or these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you have actually paid us, if any, or 100 USD.
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, business interruption, personal injury, illness, or property damage, arising from your use of or inability to use this site, or from your reliance on anything published here, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of liability for personal injury or for incidental or consequential damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply to you only to the extent the law permits, and nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Kitchenouse and its authors from any claim, demand, loss or expense, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of your breach of these terms, your misuse of the site, or your infringement of any third party right.
Copyright complaints
We respect copyright and expect the same in return. If you believe material on this site infringes your copyright, contact us through our contact page with: your contact details, identification of the work you say is infringed, the URL of the material on our site, a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorized, a statement that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the rights holder or authorized to act for them, and your signature, electronic or physical.
We will review complete notices promptly and remove or disable access to material where appropriate. We may also terminate access for anyone who repeatedly infringes copyright.
Suspension of access
We may suspend or block your access to this site at any time, without notice and without liability, if we believe you have breached these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination, including content ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability and indemnification, continue to apply.
Privacy
Our handling of personal data, cookies and advertising identifiers is set out in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Governing law and disputes
These terms and your use of this site are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, and the federal laws of the United States that apply there, without regard to conflict of law principles. You and we agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Delaware for any dispute that is not resolved informally, and each of us waives any objection to venue there.
Your local consumer protection law may give you rights that cannot be removed by agreement. Nothing in this clause affects those rights, and if you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer protections, you keep the benefit of any protection that the law of your country of residence provides.
Before starting any formal proceedings, please contact us. Most problems are resolved quickly once someone tells us about them.
Severability
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, it will be modified to the minimum extent needed to make it enforceable, or removed, and the remaining provisions will continue in full force. If we do not enforce a provision on one occasion, that is not a waiver of our right to enforce it later.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site changes or as the law does. The revised version takes effect when it is posted here, and the date at the top of this page shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms, so please check back occasionally.
Entire agreement
These terms, together with our Privacy Policy, Food Safety and Health Disclaimer and Advertising and Affiliate Disclosure, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding your use of this site, and replace the previous terms dated 8 January 2022.
